How to Repair the Engine?

by MOU YONG HONG on December 01, 2021
Today, with the rapid development of the automotive industry, the technical requirements for automotive maintenance are constantly improving. The automobile engine is the power source of the automobile, and its structure is extremely complicated, and the causes of failure are also diverse. The following summarizes the common failure phenomena and maintenance methods. Common engine failures and maintenance strategies.

1. Abnormal lubricant consumption

When a car is driving, the consumption of engine lubricant is also higher than usual. After a certain mileage, the dashboard will soon show that the amount of lubricant is insufficient. This situation is usually due to the following 3 reasons:

① It may be due to a problem with the sealing of the engine piston, which causes the gap between the piston and the cylinder wall to be too large, causing oil burning.

②It may be that the parts of the engine are severely worn, which makes the gap between the parts too large, resulting in abnormal lubricating oil consumption.

③The lubricating oil used by individual engines is not up to standard, resulting in abnormal lubricating oil consumption.

Maintenance strategy:

① Check the oil quality and quantity first and replace the lubricating oil if necessary to avoid engine malfunction due to oil quality problems.

②After eliminating the oil quality problem, you should check the relevant parts one by one. It may be that the parts are severely worn, the parts are too large or the oil pressure is too high, causing the oil to jump into the combustion chamber.

③The leakage of engine oil is mainly due to the hardening and aging of the gasket and the stuck valve.

2. Engine overheating failure

Due to the special structure of the automobile engine, the coolant temperature is likely to be too high during operation. Once the coolant temperature exceeds the normal value, the engine cannot dissipate heat normally, which will cause the engine to overheat and affect the normal operation of the engine.

When the coolant temperature is abnormal, an alarm will be displayed on the car dashboard. When the coolant temperature is abnormal.

① Stop and check to see if the coolant leaks.

It should be noted that when the car is hot, it cannot be stopped immediately, nor can it be filled with coolant immediately, but wait for the engine temperature to be normal before operating.

②If there is a lot of coolants, check whether the engine thermostat, fan radiator malfunctions, and the water tank is blocked.

3. Peculiar smell in the engine compartment

①Affected by the high temperature of the engine, the wires around it are easy to burn or melt, emitting a pungent smell.

②It is also possible that a large amount of lubricating grease is applied during the maintenance process, which volatilizes as the engine temperature increases.
During the use of the vehicle, if you find a pungent or burning smell in the engine compartment, you should stop immediately.

Maintenance strategy:

① Check whether there are any wires around the engine that are softened or burnt, and repair the burnt or short circuit in time to avoid greater safety accidents.

② After eliminating the line fault, there is still an unpleasant smell, and it should be considered whether there are factors such as oil attached to the surface of the engine, foreign matter heated to volatilize or burn.

4. Exhaust gas color is abnormal

The color of the exhaust gas after the normal combustion of gasoline should be colorless, but when the engine fails, the color of the exhaust gas will change.

①The exhaust gas is black because the fuel oil is not fully burned.

②The fuel does not meet the combustion standard, or the gasoline contains water, which will emit white tail gas.

③When the exhaust gas color is blue, it may be because the piston ring is worn too much or the oil ring is matched, which causes the oil to jump up and enter the engine combustion chamber, or the oil seeping from the valve guide participates in the combustion.

Maintenance strategy:

① When the exhaust gas is black, check the sensor related to the intake air in this case.

②When the exhaust gas color is white, there is a greater possibility of spark plug failure and poor fuel quality.

③If the exhaust gas is blue, it is necessary to solve the problem of oil burning. It may be a problem with the spark plug or valve oil seal. It should be checked in time and replaced with new ones if necessary.
