5 ways to maintain the turbocharger and extend the service life

Everyone is using and purchasing a turbocharger. So how to maintain and extend the life of a turbocharger is extremely important to us. Let us talk about it together.

The turbocharger is a very precise device, but its working principle is not complicated. In a simple way, it is to drive the turbine through the exhaust gas emitted by the engine, and then drive the turbofan connected with it on the same connecting shaft through the turbine, constantly pressing fresh air into the engine cylinder, so that the more air the cylinder enters in unit time, the more it works The more efficient. If you still don't understand, you can think of it as a pressure cooker. Under high pressure, the temperature in the cooker can be higher, and the time we cook will be shorter. Similarly, under high pressure, the working efficiency of the engine block and the piston is higher, so the power is stronger.

1. Regular oil change filter:

Oil consumption and lubrication are the key points of turbocharging technology. Selecting the original recommended oil can reduce the lack of lubrication and heat dissipation of the floating turbine main shaft.

2. Often do turbine cleaning:

The fit clearance between the turbocharger shaft and the shaft sleeve is very small, so if the used oil is not clean or impurities enter due to the unclean oil filter, it will cause excessive wear of the turbocharger. In addition, if there are a large number of impurities in the air, once these dust particles enter the high-speed running turbocharger impeller, they will make the dust particles hit the turbocharger impeller, resulting in unstable operation of the turbine, shaft sleeve, and seal wear, so the model using the turbine should pay special attention to time change the oil filter and air filter to keep the turbine clean.

3. Don't stop the engine immediately:

After the running engine stops suddenly, the oil pressure is zero, the high temperature of the turbocharger turbine part is transmitted to the middle, and the heat can't be taken away quickly. If the temperature of the exhaust manifold is very high at this time, the heat will be absorbed into the turbocharger shell, and the oil stopped in the turbocharger will be boiled into coke.

4. Proper selection and rational use of engine oil:

Use high-grade synthetic engine oil. The combustion temperature and working pressure in the turbocharged engines are much higher than those in the naturally aspirated engine. Therefore, turbocharged engines have higher requirements for lubrication and cooling. In order to ensure the normal operation of the engine in a more severe working environment, ordinary mineral oil has been difficult to meet the needs of work, so it is necessary to choose synthetic oil with better lubrication and cleaning ability. The lubricating ability, cleaning ability and anti-friction ability of synthetic oil are much better than that of mineral oil. Moreover, the lubricant film can be built quickly, with high strength and good stability. Therefore, the turbocharged models must use synthetic oil, and it is better to use fully synthetic oil. Although the cost of single maintenance will increase, the oil change cycle of the full synthetic oil can reach 8000-10000 km, and the maintenance cost will not increase significantly after comprehensive calculation.

5. Regular inspection is very important.

Due to a large number of components in a turbocharged engine, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the turbocharger has abnormal noise or unusual vibration, and check whether the lubricating oil pipe and joint have leakage. Whether there is residual oil at the exhaust outlet of turbocharging and whether there is oil in the straight pipe wall of compressor intake. The oil consumption of the turbocharged engine is not a universal problem. However, in order to prevent the accident, it is recommended that the owner regularly pull out the engine oil dipstick and check the oil consumption to ensure that the oil level is within the normal range. If there is visible oil consumption, it is better to check it at the maintenance station as soon as possible.
